(Cross Plains, IN) – Ripley County Emergency Management says the Cross Plains outdoor warning sirens are not functioning.
Repairs are in progress, but the system is not expected to up and running prior to this afternoon and evening’s possible severe weather event.
Meteorologists say showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon and evening.
Scattered severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing small hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes, according to forecasters.
Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert those who are outside and should never be considered your only method of receiving severe weather warnings.
You’re strongly encouraged to have multiple ways to receive alerts, including:
- Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) enabled on your cell phone;
- A NOAA weather radio;
- A trusted weather app with notifications turned on, and
- Hyper-Reach emergency notifications.
