(Decatur County, IN) – Firefighters in southern Decatur County battled a pair of field fires over the weekend.
Crews were called to deal with a fast-moving field fire yesterday afternoon at County Roads 700 South and 420 West near Letts.
The flames consumed 10 acres of corn stubble before the fire was brought under control.
Firefighters say it took 2,000 gallons of water and the use of a plow tractor to put out the blaze.
It is believed the fire was sparked by an ember from a controlled burn that took place last Wednesday.
The Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department was sent to County Roads 60 East and 700 South near Millhousen to battle a field fire Friday afternoon.
Heavy smoke was seen coming from the field, and the flames burned about four acres.
The Letts Community Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance and crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
There were no injuries reported in either field fire.
