Batesville, in. — Batesville city council agreed to allocate $3,000 in Belterra money to fund a billboard on westbound I-74 right before the Batesville exit. Batesville Main Street, the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the Sherman made the request.
Sean Townsley from Batesville Main Street spoke for the group and made initial request of $5,900 to fund the billboard for two years. The contract includes four message changes, or two per year.
Members of council debated the viability of the city purchasing an electronic message sign, then agreed to fund the request for one year. Representatives from the Sherman agreed to pay the difference for the two-year contract.
Council members also agreed to explore repair and possible replacement of one existing Batesville sign east of the city on I-74 and the former location of another west of town.
