LIBERTY, Ind. – The carved sculpture honoring veterans was mounted in to place this morning at Whitewater Memorial State Park.
The 8-foot carving features a soldier, an Indiana state flag with an eagle perched above, and a 14-inch cross at the bottom.
The cross has been the subject of debate after complaints surfaced that alleges the statue does not represent the non-Christian soldiers who served in the military.
Governor Mike Pence and other lawmakers have publicly supported the sculpture.
The statue was permanently put in place Thursday morning ahead of a ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Veterans Day, November 11. The ceremony is open to the public.
