Clifford “Cliff” Kunkel, 85

cliff-kunkelClifford “Cliff” Kunkel, 85, of Greensburg passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home. Cliff was born on August 2, 1931 near St. Peters, In. to Joseph and Veronica (Rosfeld) Kunkel. Cliff graduated from Brookville High School in 1950. He joined the Army and proudly served as a Corporal in Korea from 1952 to 1954. Cliff farmed in his early years and drove for Colonial Bread Co. He loved spending time with his family. He found his true calling when he purchased the St. Paul Tavern. He loved serving people and making sure they were happy. He retired from bartending in 1994. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, the V.F.W. and the American Legion both in Greensburg. He was married to Ruth Harmeyer on August 28, 1954 and she survives. Cliff is also survived by 4 sons; Gary Kunkel, Rick (Molly Plank) Kunkel, David Kunkel, and Mark (Denise Gaboury) Kunkel, all of Ft. Myers, FL, 3 daughters; Carol (Charles) Kramer, Greensburg, Lynne (Phil) Miller and Angie (Ron) Wood, both of Batesville, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Lawrence Kunkel, and three sisters; Bernice Kunkel (infant), Marian Simmermeyer, and Marcella Schwegman. Visitation will be at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Monday, December 26 from 3-7 pm. with a Rosary starting at 2:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 27 at 10 am with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville. Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Building Fund or to Our Hospice.
