(Jeffersonville, IN) – Sometimes justice takes a while and the court processes can be frustrating. But, for the people of Clark County, who had to endure one of the largest public corruption cases in Indiana history, the end may be near.

Former sheriff Jamey Noel’s wife Misty pleaded guilty to stealing county money Wednesday, by admittedly using credit cards belonging to the fire and EMS divisions of the sheriff’s office.

Her husband was in charge of the departments and is serving 15 years for leading the corruption scheme that benefitted his family to the millions of dollars. Misty herself is accused of stealing more than $660,000, all while fire department personnel had to tend emergency calls with inferior and insufficient equipment.

Special Judge Larry Medlock will have to decide whether to accept Ms. Noel’s guilty plea, which will require more investigation.

As part of the plea deal she would serve a year and a half in prison.

“We look at culpability throughout this whole case, we feel like Jamey Noel was the most culpable, that doesn’t mean Misty didn’t commit a crime, she admitted she did commit a crime,” said Special Prosecutor Ric Hertel of Ripley County after court, at a press conference Wednesday.

Other people who have already pleaded guilty in the case include the former sheriff and his daughter Kasey, and Brittney Ferree, a former member of the Clark County Council.

Several other people still face charges in the case.
