Greensburg, IN — The City of Greensburg and Decatur County is under a Boil Water Order until further notice due to a main water break. This does affect Decatur County Rural Water customers as well as City of Greensburg customers, as the City of Greensburg is the water supplier for DCRW.
Greensburg Community Schools and North Decatur Schools are on early dismissal today and the City of Greensburg has asked local industry to shut down while the repair is in progress to keep as much water in the system as possible in case of emergency.
The break is in the main water line that feeds the water plant off of Fourth Street. Mayor Josh Marsh stated that there currently is no estimated repair time, but is hopeful that tomorrow morning, businesses will be able to return to normal.
You may notice that water pressure is extremely low and reduced during this time. If you need to use water, use it sparingly and safely.
The CDC advises the following during a Boil Water Order:
• Use bottled or boiled water for drinking, and to prepare and cook food.
• If bottled water is not available, bring water to a full rolling boil for 1 minute. After boiling, allow the water to cool before use.
• Boil tap water even if it is filtered (for example, by a home water filter or a pitcher that filters water).
• Do not use water from any appliance connected to your water line, such as ice and water from a refrigerator.
• Breastfeeding is the best infant feeding option. If you formula feed your child, provide ready-to-use formula, if possible
• Brush teeth with boiled or bottled water. Do not use tap water that you have not boiled first.
