The Aurora Police Chief announced his resignation following his arrest last month. He will officially step down on Friday.
Bryan Fields, 42, was arrested after a domestic dispute inside of his home on Dec. 15. Police say he and his wife Holly, 42, were in a physical confrontation when they arrived. She was later transported to the Dearborn County Hospital.
The Aurora Board of Works voted to suspend him without pay days after the incident occurred.
“It has been a privilege to serve the city of Aurora for the past 16 years, and my decision to resign was not made lightly,” the former police chief wrote in his resignation letter.
He has been charged with one count of domestic battery and two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, all class A misdemeanors.
Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel has been specially assigned to handle the case. A pre-trial conference is Jan. 30 with a trial set to begin in early March.
