Greensburg, In. — City council members in Greensburg will consider a chicken ordinance tonight. The council under consideration would allow residents to keep up to four hens at least 20 feet away from a property line in city limits. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in city hall. Residential lots that cannot accommodate the 20 foot setback would have to apply for a variance.
Last month council members and the public conducted a debate but the measure tabled because council president, Jamie Cain was not in attendance.
Council members are aware some people are keeping chickens within city limits and want to regulate it, but don’t necessarily support the concept.
Evansville, Bloomington, Greenfield and Columbus all have ordinance that control flocks within city limits.
