Charlotte L. “Shorty” (nee Barclay) Vinup, age 97, of Batesville, Indiana, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born March 16, 1928, in Greensburg, Indiana. She is the daughter of Forrest and Crystal (nee Dunn) Barclay. She was married to Leon Vinup on February 18th, 1950, at Greensburg United Methodist Church in Greensburg, Indiana.
Shorty was a true people person and had a very spunky personality. For years her welcoming smile greeted customers at the Batesville Rite Aid store and later CVS where she worked as a store clerk. She also enjoyed serving others as a waitress at the Batesville Eagles. She was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Club and the Batesville Firemen Ladies Auxiliary. Leon and Shorty could regularly be found playing cards and socializing at the Eagles with friends. A Bud Light was never too far away even during Shorty’s later years living in the nursing home. Shorty was a member of the Rosie Reds organization which led to many enjoyable baseball bus trips for her and Leon with their friends. She enjoyed afternoons sitting on her front porch and keeping tabs on everything going on in the area by listening to their police scanner. She loved to enjoy time with her family, especially the grandkids and great grandkids in her later years. While Shorty wasn’t known for her cooking, her homemade macaroni and cheese is a family favorite that will live on for future generations to enjoy.
She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Randy) Wanstrath of Batesville and Vickie (Charlie) Baylor of Milan; grandchildren Jeff (Amy) Wanstrath and Sarah (Travis) Smith both of Batesville and Dustin (Danielle) Baylor and Brandon (Andrea) Baylor both of Milan; great-grandchildren Jackson and Madison Wanstrath, Jaden and Jevan Smith, Matthew, Makenleigh, Mason, Lexi, and Kyla Baylor, and step-great grandchild Haiden Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Leon, parents, and brothers Paul and Bob Barclay.
