Charges announced in Mexican Restaurant probe

Greensburg, In. — Charges have been filed in the investigation of Mexican restaurants operating in central Indiana.

Earlier this month police arrested Sarbelio Leon, Juan Montanez, Felipa Montanez and Gregorio Montanez for corrupt business influence, theft, money laundering, perjury, failure to maintain records and failure to remit add-back deduction.

Officers from the Indiana Excise Police say they used false social security numbers and failed to income taxes and employee payroll taxes. Further, investigators say the suspects used cash register manipulation and intentionally destroyed receipts to hide sales.

The suspects are partners in the following locations:

  • Los Primos in Bright
  • Mezcal Bar & Grill in Rushville
  • El Reparo locations in Brookville, Liberty, Greensburg and Rushville

Investigators say during the 29-month investigation they determined the suspects may have avoided paying more than $500,000 in taxes.
