Harkening back to days gone by, the Chargers scrimmaged a familiar foe Friday evening as the visiting Titans of Tri High entered the hallowed halls of Ed Kaelin Field. No score was kept, but two seasoned programs battled each other in a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Both teams left the scrimmage with positives and negatives; things to work on and things to address. Both teams rattled off long plays and slogged it out in the trenches for every inch. Following the normal IHSAA, non-special teams format, the teams each took turns in segments of 15, 12, and 8 play segments from different positions on the field. Both teams fielded a full JV roster as well, so all of the players got a chance to show off their hard work from the off-season. Junior running back Corbin Thackery left a positive impression on all in attendance, scrambling for multiple long plays and touchdowns. Senior Mason Morris found senior TE Xander Jones for several outstanding passes and scores. Freshman running back Simon Barber also ran hard and picked up positive yardage for the Chargers. Defensively, the boys in blue fought relentlessly throughout the evening with solid performances from Kayden Scudder, Issac Martin, Cohen Thackery, and Nolan Burkhart, to name just a few. All told, the evening ended with both programs shaking hands, wishing the other best of luck on the season, and parting ways to build on what they learned. The Chargers next face cross-county opponent, South Decatur in the Bucket Game at South Decatur.
