Chargers Football Fall in Home Opener, 34-8

The Chargers struggled in their home opener against conference opponent, the Eastern Hancock Royals. With uncharacteristic fumbles and miscues, the Chargers found themselves in an early point deficit. Against the #6 team in 2A, that deficit became something the Chargers could not overcome. The Royals received the opening kick-off and found the end zone at the 8:52 mark of the first quarter. The Chargers opening drive ended with a poor punt snap and recovery that left the Chargers defending a very short field. With the Royal finding the end zone again quickly, the Chargers found themselves a situation they don’t often see – a two-score deficit in the first quarter. The Chargers would again stumble and the Royals entered halftime with a 20-0 advantage. The Chargers received the second-half kick-off and marched down for a score, but would not find the end zone again. Despite several successful defensive stands, the Chargers allowed 380 yards of total offense and only put up 192. The Chargers will look to regroup and refocus before facing another conference opponent this week in the Monroe Central Golden Bears.
