Metamora, IN—The Whitewater Valley in southeastern Indiana tells a story of the past and growth during an early developmental period of the United States and Indiana. Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway Association protects and celebrates the rich history in the region. The Association held a dinner on Wednesday evening to celebrate the accomplishments and gave a look towards the future. The guest speaker for the evening was Jackie Carberry the co-founder of Warm Glow Candle Company. Carberry shared her story of how the company started in their basement and grew to an 80,000 square foot facility here in southeastern Indiana.
Thomas Horninger, President of the Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway Association made an exciting announcement at last evening’s dinner that the group is working to designate the byway as a national byway. He also announced a regional Christmas contest for homes and businesses in southeastern Indiana to compete for the best decorations and that the scenic byway routes would be updating signs along the routes.
Two individuals were recognized at the dinner for their contributions to the association with the Spirit of the Byway award. Chris Oesterling with Hirt and Elco was given the award for his help at the Depot during the flood in 2019. Candy Yurcak was surprised with the award for her years of contributions to the area and to the group.
