Carolyn Joyce Kestler, 83, of Osgood, IN, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community member, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 8, 1940, to the late Roy and Annabelle (Littrell) Bossert.
Shortly after graduating from Brookville High School, she met her future husband, Herb, at a dance. They were married at St. Peter’s UCC at Klemmes Corner on June 6, 1959. They spent their early married years living in Connersville and Columbia City before returning to the family farm. Their nearly sixty-year marriage was marked by deep love and commitment, creating a nurturing home for their four children.
Carolyn was known for her warm heart, generosity, and dedication to her family and community. She was an avid gardener, voracious reader, and was well-known for her cooking and baking. Her garden and house plants showcased her green thumb. Outside of her home, she spent several years working for Taff Furniture and Vollmer Insurance Agency. She took great pride in her active membership at St. Peter’s UCC Finks Church, where she served as a council member, liturgist, and Ladies Aid officer, making a lasting impact through her work and volunteer efforts.
Carolyn’s legacy lives on through her children: Tammy Goodman of Canton, MI, Sheri (Scot) Cunningham of Osgood, Ken (Debbie) Kestler of Greensburg, and Jennifer (Sam) Thompson of Fishers; her 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb, her parents, and brothers, Millard and William (Bill) Bossert.
Serving as pall bearers will be; Jeff Cunningham, Sam Thompson IV, Aaron Aster, David Goodman, Larry Haunert and Roger Huff.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 4-7 PM at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10 AM at Finks Church, with doors opening at 9 AM. Following the service, Carolyn will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. A light luncheon will be served afterwards in the social hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Kestler Family Scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
