Bulldogs Middle School Basketball Results

The Batesville 6th Grade Boys played the South Dearborn Knights in a two game set Tuesday night at St. Anthony’s in Morris and came away with two victories to move their overall record on the campaign to (20-6).

In game one the Bulldogs were able to over-come hot shooting from the visitors and prevail in a contest that came down to the last possession with a final score of 35-32.

Solid defense forced South Dearborn into a wild shot for the tie after the Knights had called time out to set up an offensive play.  The Bulldogs forced several turnovers with their full court press to alleviate their own self-inflicted 14 errors.  The size of the Knights kept the rebound battle close with the Bulldogs having the edge 21-19 and 5 3 pointers by the Knights Teke kept the game close until the end.

Jack Grunkemeyer led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points, followed by Chris Lewis and Gus Prickel with 8 each, and Sam Johnson 7.  Grunkemeyer added 6 rebounds and Johnson had 4.  Lewis, Prickel and Johnson each had 2 assists in the game one victory.

In game 2, The Bulldogs were much more efficient shooting 58% from the field, limiting the Knights to 26% and no 3 point field goals and cruising to a comfortable 34-19 win.

The Bulldogs committed too many turnovers once again, 16, but were able to over-come those errors by forcing several by the opponent with full court pressure and winning the rebound battle 22-13.  The Bulldogs were very strong in the second half shooting 75% from the field and getting some solid bench play.

Chris Lewis led the squad in the second win of the night with 11 points, followed by Gus Prickel, Bradley Wirth and Conner Drake with 6, Brendan Heiser added 3 and Jonathan Buschle 2.  Wirth added 7 rebounds and Grunkemeyer 4.  Grunkemeyer also added an impressive 4 assists.

The 7th Grade Batesville Basketball team beat the Benjamin Rush Basketball Team Tuesday night by a score of 45-18.

Leading in scoring for Batesville was Lyle Oesterling with 13, followed by Jackson Renck with 9, Bryson Bonelli added 8 ,Grant Peters chipped In 5, and Cole Pride and Willy Sherwood both added 4. Rounding out the scoring was Trent Roell with 2.

The Dogs will be back in action as they start the tournament Monday night against South Ripley.

The 8th Grade Bulldogs won last night vs. Ben Rush 40-24.

Ian Powers led in scoring with 8, followed by Eli Pierson with 6. Cole Werner and Brady Hornberger had 5 a piece. Zach Wade had 4, Luke Wilson, Will Habig had 4 and Hunter Laudick, Travis Lecher, and Ean Loichinger had 2.

The Dogs will be back in action Monday against South Ripley.
