Monday was a long day for Batesville, falling to South Dearborn 9-2.
The Bulldogs fired up the offense in the first inning. Quinn Werner hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the third inning, South Dearborn tied things up at two when Jace Leonard singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
South Dearborn pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth an error scored one run for South Dearborn.
South Dearborn scored five runs in the fifth inning.
Willoughby earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for South Dearborn. He went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. Leonard threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Sam Voegele took the loss for the Bulldogs. He lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out two.
Calvin Sherwood led the Bulldogs with two hits in four at bats.
The loss takes the Bulldogs to 14-11 and 8-5 in the EIAC. The Bulldogs final game of the season will be on Thursday at Liberty Park against South Dearborn for senior night!
