Marion, Oh. — The official weather-predicting groundhog in Ohio, Buckeye Chuck saw his shadow Friday- that means six more weeks of winter. Buckeye Chuck was declared the official weather-predicting authority in 1979 by the Ohio State Legislature.
Chuck makes his home in Marion, Ohio.
Legend says if the groundhog pops out of its burrow and sees a shadow before disappearing back into his hole, it means more blustering cold, snowy conditions are ahead for six more weeks. But if the groundhog does not see a shadow, it won’t be scared and instead happy to come out of its burrow to prepare for an early spring.
