Lawrenceburg, IN — A 25-year-old Brookville man has been sentenced for his role in the Fentynal overdose deaths of two area men.
Seth Donohue was sentenced on August 10 to 25 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised probation, by Dearborn Superior Court II Judge Sally McLaughlin, after he pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death in connection with the August 2020 death of 23-year-old Garrett Johnson of Brookville, and the September 2020 death of 23-year-old Jacob Berting of West Harrison.
Investigators say both Johnson and Berting died as the result of a Fentanyl overdose, and that Donohue was responsible for selling the drug.
“This is a tragic case involving the death of two young men who were dealing with the demons of drug use,” said Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens. “Through the hard work and cooperation of Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp, law enforcement agencies from Dearborn and Franklin counties, and the Indiana State Police, we were able to secure this conviction. While this result will not bring back the lives of these two young men, it will perhaps save others from a similar fate and put drug pushers on notice that Fentanyl distribution will not be tolerated in our communities.”
Donohue’s co-defendant, 21-year-old Karina Gonzalez, is set to go on trial on November 15 in Dearborn Superior Court II.
Gonzales was charged in November 2020 with Conspiracy to Commit Dealing in a Schedule II Controlled Substance Resulting in Death; Dealing in a Schedule II Controlled Substance Resulting in Death (both Level 1 felonies), and Dealing in a Narcotic Drug (Level 5 felony).
