(Franklin/Union Counties, IN) – Brookville Lake turns 50 this year, and several observances are planned to mark the occasion.
The primary celebration is set to take place on Saturday, July 26.
The lake was created in 1975 mainly for flood control with a dam that was dedicated by then-Gov. Otis Bowen.
Other notable attendees at the dedication ceremony included then-U.S. Senator Vance Hartke, then-Congressman Lee Hamilton, and officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
It estimated the lake straddling the Franklin/Union County line has had a nearly $100 million economic impact on the area since its creation.
