BMS Volleyball Sweeps St. Louis

Batesville swept St. Louis in the middle school crosstown volleyball matchup Tuesday night at the Cardinals’ Activity Center.

The Bulldogs won the 7th grade match in two sets 25-21 and 25-19.

Adalyn Placke earned 10 service points including three aces for the Bulldogs. Ella Peetz had five points with one ace. Nya Moon had four points with one ace. Zoey Mathews and Vera Flannery chipped in three points each. Reese Richey had two points and Allana Herbert’s one point was an ace. Earning kills were Vera Flannery and Adalyn Placke with one each. Caroline Wiedeman, Zoey Mathews, and Nya Moon had one kill a piece.

Isla Padgett led St. Louis with six points and three aces. Claire Baker added five points and two aces. Lydia Dwyer led the defensive effort with three blocks and one kill. Katie Hammond contributed two kills and one dig. Reagan Siefert added two blocks and two kills. Padgett, Baker and Eloise Hamilton each added two digs.

Batesville took the 8th grade contest in three sets 25-22, 20-25, and 15-4.

Amelia Vierling led all servers with an 11-point effort, hitting all 16 of her serves for the match. Maci Smith (10 points, five aces), Lydia Niese (six points, one ace), and Breauna Broshears (five points) were BMS’ top scorers for the night. Lydia Niese and Miki Gutzwiller set up the offense. Kenzi Lacey earned a team high seven kills, Lydia Niese had five kills, and Carly Blanton chipped in three kills to lead the Bulldogs’ front line attack. Broshears and Smith added one kill each. Gabby Brown and Amelia Vierling had a number of on-target passes.

Emma Hunter was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with nine points and three aces. Elsa Schneider and Natalie Kranz added six points each. Libero Bella Watson anchored the St. Louis defense with 16 digs against a hard-hitting Bulldog offense. Natalie Kranz had four blocks, six digs, and four kills. Elsa Schneider added four blocks and two kills. Alice Austin added two kills.

The Bulldogs entertain South Dearborn on Thursday.

The Cardinals will be back in action during 8th Grade night on Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m. in the St. Louis Activity Center.
