One local resident described it as an “up-close and personal experience” on Thursday morning when the Reds Caravan made a stop at the Sherman House in Batesville.
Fans shared memories with a long-time broadcaster and a former player, and also had the opportunity to meet some new members of the organization.
The capacity room was all ears when two hall of famer’s spoke live on WRBI.
Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame member Ron Raver and legendary Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman conversed about team history and the its current direction.
In addition to Brennaman, former player Eric Davis, Assistant GM Bob Miller, Catcher Bryan Pena, Minor Leaguer and Indiana native Tucker Barnhart, and former player and broadcaster Doug Flynn were in attendance.
According to Bob Miller, the visit to the Sherman House is a good experience for fans and team personnel alike. “Its fun, it is enjoyable. It really warms your heart to know what your doing is making a lot of people happy.”
For those meeting Tucker Barnhart for the first time on Thursday, Miller said the young catcher is somebody to keep an eye out for.
“He’ll be one foul tip from the major leagues, I expect to see Tuck in the major leagues in the next year or two.”
Sherman House owner Doug Bessler will not be surprised if Barnhart is in the big leagues sooner than later.
“I asked Tucker, jokingly, to have a picture with me because every minor leaguer that ever came here and had a picture with me seemed to make it to the pros,” Bessler said.
