INDIANAPOLIS– There’ll be a whole lot of racing going on this weekend.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is hosting the 30th anniversary edition of the Brickyard 400 NASCAR race Sunday. How long ago is 30 years? Well, Jeff Gordon had only turned 23 years old, 2 days before that first event, and he won it. In fact his rainbow-colored Chevy from back then will be on display for fans this weekend.
Gordon tells NASCAR.com that being part of that first Brickyard race was truly special. Gordon adds that one really lived up to the hype, too.
The man he was driving that Chevy for, Hendrick Motorsports founder Rick Hendrick, will be driving the Camaro pace car Sunday. His company’s marking its 40th anniversary this year.
