Betty Sue Vonderheide, age 95 of Brookville

Betty Sue Vonderheide, of Brookville, was born on September 12th, 1930, and was the cherished daughter of John Harkins Payne and Lura Payne Greene (nee Gouge).

While in Miami, Florida, Betty met Elmer Vonderheide which was just the beginning of their beautiful union. The two were united in marriage at St. Michael Rectory on October 15th, 1949, by Father George B. Saum. Together they raised eight wonderful children, and built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Betty was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and an active participant in the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, Twin Forks Chapter, in which she took immense pride. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing a lively game of bingo, gambling, fishing at Brookville Lake, and refinishing furniture she found at auctions. She enjoyed collecting dolls and going antiquing, and she also bred and raised Dalmatian puppies. A talented cook and baker, Betty was known by her family, friends, and Community for her generous spreads and her famous pies.  Above all, she treasured spending time with her family and grandchildren, who were the true joy of her life. On Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, at the age of 95, Betty passed away peacefully to join the love of her life, Elmer.

Those surviving who will cherish Betty’s memory include her eight children, Elmer Mike (Gayla) Vonderheide of Batesville, IN, Deborah King of Kenosha, WI, Randy (Gail) Vonderheide of Lafayette, IN, David Vonderheide of College Corner, IN, Kerry (Cathy) Vonderheide of New Castle, IN, Irwin (Barbara) Vonderheide of Brookville, IN, Allen (Shauna) Vonderheide of Brookville, IN and Mary Buckler of Batesville, IN; sixteen grandchildren; as well as 35 great-grandchildren with a set of twins on the way. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Elmer Ernest Vonderheide; loved siblings; one granddaughter, Megan Vonderheide; two sons-in-law, Russell King and George Buckler; as well as one daughter-in-law, Jody. Betty had an unwavering faith in God, and we are sure she has found peace and comfort with those that have passed.
