Bernard “Bernie” Wilbert Wesseler, age 86, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1938, in Batesville, Indiana to Henry and Cecilia (Bedel) Wesseler.
After graduating from high school, Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon his return, he went on to work for Cummins, where he spent 41 years of dedicated service before retiring. Alongside his career, Bernie had a strong passion for farming, which he continued to pursue while working at Cummins.
A man of many interests, Bernie enjoyed spending his free time boating and fishing, finding peace and joy by the water. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Greensburg Eagles 927, and the American Legion Post 129.
On June 29, 1960, Bernie married the love of his life, Patricia “Patsy” Schebler. Together they shared a wonderful life, filled with love and devotion until Patsy’s passing on October 8, 2024. Their bond was one of unwavering strength and affection.
Bernie is survived by his two sons, David “Butch” Wesseler and Dale (Maria) Wesseler, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Elvera (Dave) Muckerheide, Barb (Martin) Retzner, and Donald (Beth) Wesseler, along with his sister-in-law, Angie Wesseler.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy; his parents; his son, Daniel Wesseler; his daughter, Cindy Young; and his brothers: Francis “Whitey” Wesseler and Cletus Wesseler.
Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, with visitation following from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial and military honors will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
