(Greensburg, IN) – A large crowd turned out for Saturday morning’s Ag Day Breakfast at the Red Barn at Next Generation in Greensburg.
Beck ‘s Hybrids President Scott Beck was the keynote speaker, and told the story of his grandparents starting the business in 1937 and their journey to the present day in which the fifth generation of the Beck family is involved.
He said it’s important to not only keep in mind the stewardship of the assets or valuables, but also remember the values,.
“And how we work to pass on things that are important to us from a faith and family perspective,” Beck said.
He hopes attendees will take away things to remember.

“We all go through challenges, ups and downs, and being intentional about the things that matter, with our faith, our family, our farming operation is going to get us through,” Beck added.
Local farmer Tim Gauck was recognized by Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association Executive Director Danica Kirkpatrick for being awarded the organization’s Certificate of Distinction.
Gauck was presented the honor at the Purdue Ag Alumni Fish Fry earlier this month.
He grows corn, soybeans and wheat on his farm in rural Decatur and Rush counties.
It was announced that this year’s Farmers Feeding the Flock fundraiser for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life will take place in a 25–30-acre soybean field at the junction of State Roads 3 and 46 donated by Smiley Family Farm.
“I think it’s a great opportunity we’ve been given, and we’re glad to share with the county,” Smiley said. “Community, county, area, whatever you want to say, we’ve been able to donate. This is great, and we can show what we can all do together.”
Smiley says he and his son Jeff were inspired to donate this year, particularly by the memory of the man who started the program in Decatur County.
“We’d known Merrill Smith for years, and we hadn’t been on the list just yet but we’re so glad to have this opportunity this year,” Smiley added.
Smith passed away in May 2024 at the age of 71.
An estimated $300,405 has been raised by Farmers Feeding the Flock over the past seven years of the program’s existence.
The Ag Day Breakfast was presented by the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
