(Batesville, IN) – The freshman class at Batesville High School had a community day on Tuesday, October 24.
It started in the school auditorium to meet with Jostens for class rings before the students traveled to the Ivy Tech Community College Batesville campus to take part in a six-program rotation which consisted of team building and meeting with local business owners to discuss career interests.
Toby Walsman from Batesville Tool & Die (BTD) told the students about the company and how it became a world-class leader in the automotive business (pictured).
Walsman explained opportunities the students would have as juniors and seniors in the manufacturing field.
Juniors who are enrolled at Ivy Tech in the technical field come to BTD and get hands-on experience in the machining lab where manual machines operate, he said.
As seniors, Walsman said students can co-op, where they will attend school for part of the day and then go to work in technical fields and earn an hourly wage.
After the rotation, students went to Liberty Park for lunch and activities.
They finished the day with beautification and maintenance around the park – picking up trash, and sticks, and raking leaves.
