(Batesville, IN) – For the first time in history, the Batesville High School Show Choir – commonly known as the Batesville Singers – has reached the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) State Concert Finals.
“This is an incredible achievement,” said Dan Borns, BCSC Choir Director. “I am really proud of how the students have performed all year, and this is a great way to cap off all of their hard work.”
Borns says there are 682 high schools in Indiana. He adds to qualify for Top 16 choir in the state is a huge accomplishment, since the competition is open to all schools regardless of size.
Many of the other schools participating are well-known for their historically strong performing arts programs, including Avon, Fishers, Plainfield, Carmel, and Lafayette Jefferson.
The mixed choir finals will be held this Saturday, May 4 at the Pike Performing Arts Center in Indianapolis with the Batesville Singers performing at 7:50 p.m.
The public is invited to attend. Admission is $7.
The state champions will each be awarded a $1,000 “Winners Drink Milk” scholarship for one of its students, courtesy of American Dairy Association Indiana and Prairie Farms Dairy.
Some special festivities are being planned for the Batesville Singers on Friday and Saturday.
Community members and local businesses are invited to congratulate the 36-member choir by donating items for swag bags for each choir member. Please drop off your items for their gift bags at the BHS Office to the attention of Missy Merkel.
The public is also invited to meet in front of Batesville High School on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. with banners, posters, and plenty of school spirit to give the students a proper send off to the ISSMA State Finals.
