Customers in Batesville are now seeing that it costs a bit more to turn on the faucet after receiving their water bill this week.
City officials approved an ordinance in December to raise water rates by 40 percent this year, and 10 percent in 2015 and 2016.
The ordinance went into effect last month, so residents are seeing the increase reflected on the current water bill.
Mayor Rick Fledderman said last year, “I know people who are on fixed incomes and we very sympathetic towards that. But with the increases, it will still have us towards the bottom of comparative communities.”
