Batesville, IN — On Wednesday, two Batesville Police officers were recognized for saving six lives in the early morning hours of August 31, 2020. The Batesville Police Department received a report of a house fire on Park Avenue. Lieutenant Danny Hamilton and Patrolman Travis Cook were each presented with a Life-Saving medal for their heroic efforts.

In those early morning hours, Dispatcher Teri Barker immediately dispatched officers even before paging the fire department. Lieutenant Danny Hamilton and Patrolman Travis Cook responded and were able to get a family of six safely out of the home. Within seconds of getting the family out, several oxygen tanks exploded, causing the home to become fully engulfed with flames. One person perished in the fire.

Chief Holt had hoped to recognize all those involved at the end of the year dinner, but due to the pandemic, that was postponed. Dispatcher Teri Barker will also be presented with the award at a separate ceremony.
