BATESVILLE, Ind. — One Community One Family in Batesville recently received a grant from the Indiana State Department of Health aimed at decreasing the state’s high infant mortality rate.
10 organizations and non-profits across the state received a share of $13 Million in grant money.
In 2014, the state’s infant mortality rate was 7 per every 1,000 births, compared to the national average of 5.8.
Infant mortality is defined by babies dying before turning one-year old.
In most cases, infant mortality is associated with low birth weights, mothers who smoke, or unsafe sleeping practices.
