Batesville High School Cross Country at Rushville Invitational

It was a tough challenging week for athletes, battling not only the high temperatures but the humidity as well.  The Batesville Cross Country team completed the week, on Saturday with an Invitational at Rushville.  Thankfully the sun stayed under in the morning, but the humidity was still felt. The runners fought through it and really ran well.  Although the meet was divided into 2 divisions, big school/small school, the runners competed in one race with 20+ teams and almost 140 athletes.  The boys started off the morning and after all was separated and scored, the Bulldogs brought home the championship trophy winning by 10 points over Rushville, 53-63. East Central came in 3rd at 73, followed by Muncie Burris with 82 points.  Individual awards were given to the top 20 of the race and the boys had 5 in this position. The Bulldogs were led by Jake Chapman who was runner up with a time of 17:41. Isaac Trossman was 6th (18:14), Jaden Basler, 11th (18:40), Cannon Clark, 15th (19:06) and Ethan Rahschulte was 19th (19:16). Congratulations boys!

On the girls’ side, their race was a little bit smaller, as there were about 16 teams and only 85 runners.  And, although Batesville had 6 girls in the top 20, they could not beat the East Central Trojans who scored an impressive 22 points to our 47. New Castle came in 3rd at 79 points and Rushville was 4th with 99.  The Bulldogs were led by Kaylynn Bedel who placed 4th with a time of 20:39. Lexiyne Harris came through next for the Dogs in 6th place at 21:11. Kaylie Raver was 10th (22:13), Sam Adams, 11th (22:26), Bayleigh Demaree, 16th (23:09) with teammate Charlotte Trossman right behind her in 17th (23:10).  Way to go ladies!

Although it was not a career personal best kind of morning, Batesville still had 4 runners to get a season’s personal best and they were: Jake Chapman, Cash Myers, Kaylynn Bedel, and Charlotte Trossman.

The Bulldogs have two races this week.  First, they will host the County meet on Thursday, with the boys racing at 5 p.m. and on Saturday they will travel to East Central for their Invitational starting at 9 a.m.
