BATESVILLE, Ind. — The Batesville parks department presented their proposal for a smoking ban in the city parks.
If approved by the council, no smoking would be permitted in any city park with the exception of Liberty Park.
In Liberty Park, no smoking would be permitted in any structures within the park.
Council members agreed to have an ordinance written following the recommendations from the parks department.
It was brought to the council to consider vaping to be included in the ban.
In the draft of the ordinance, vaping will be included to be brought before the council at a future meeting.
In new business, the 2017 salary ordinance was brought to the council as a first reading.
A special meeting will be held on December 28 to approve the ordinance.

An ordinance to repeal the prohibition of parking on the south side of Pearl Street between Main Street and Park Avenue.
Permanent signs would be installed allowing a maximum parking time of 30 minutes.
The council approved to suspend the rules to vote on the ordinance at their Monday night meeting.
The council then approved unanimously to approve the parking ordinance.
The Batesville Parks Department had previously asked the council for a Belterra Funds Request to install a new flag pole at Liberty Park.
The department reported that the flag pole has already been ordered thanks to donors from around the city.
Mike Baumer withdrew the department’s request.
