Batesville Airport announces December closure

Batesville, In. — Citing a lack of city and county support Batesville Aviation Services will close the airport at 25222 Enochsburg Road on December 1, 2017.

Friday airport owners Charles and John Whittington released the following statement:

“Batesville Aviation Services would be open to the idea of working with Greensburg to have a combined regional airport close by at the Batesville facility,” Batesville Airport representatives said in a statement. “It has an outstanding 6,000-plus-foot runway, a large tarmac and over 34,000 square feet of hanger space. The facility is in great shape and still in compliance as a public airport, but without the community helping with some of the operating funds, it is forced to close its doors.”

After construction in 1961, the airport was operated by Hillenbrand Industries until 2012 when the Whittingtons purchased the property.
