Batesville 8th Grade Basketball Finishes Runner-Up To Open Season

Versailles, IN – Along with the 7th grade, the 8th grade Bulldogs opened up their season in the South Ripley Invitational on Saturday.

In what became a thrilling opening round matchup with the Greensburg Pirates, the Bulldogs secured the victory after channeling their inner Reggie Miller, scoring 6 points in 6 seconds. The moment of the game came at the end when RJ Schuerman drilled a half-court shot to beat the buzzer and also the Pirates. Isaiah Martin led all scoring with 13 points, 8 of the those points coming in the 4th quarter. Hank Bohman added 10 points, while Schuerman contributed 3 points. Beckett Jones scored 2 points, and Jax Negovetich and Deacon Fledderman each added 1 point to round out the scoring.

In the championship, the Bulldogs were set to face off against the South Ripley Raiders. Despite a strong and promising start, Batesville fell short, falling by a score of 30-26. Lane Higham led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while Bohman chipped in with 6. Negovetich and Evan Ibold each contributed 3 points.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this Saturday at the South Dearborn Tip-Off Tournament, beginning pool play with a matchup against Jennings County.
