Barton L. McLain, 82, of Dillsboro passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Barton was born on Thursday, January 14, 1943, in Evarts, Kentucky; son of Garfield McLain and Doris Marie (Henderson) McLain. Barton worked for many years as a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky. He married Jenny (Botter) McLain, who preceded him. He was a mentor for the Hope Center where he dedicated many years helping others and was also a member of the Evart Baptist Church. Barton also enjoyed camping, hiking, and doing woodworking. He was known for his cooking such as smoking meat and doing barbecues.
Barton will be missed by his sons Gardiner (Suzie) McLain of Dillsboro and Bentley (Tina) McLain of Nicholasville, Kentucky; brother Tracy McLain of Danville, Kentucky; sister Sidney (Bill) McLain Bryant of Evarts, Kentucky; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Barton was preceded in death by his parents Garfield and Marie McLain; wife Jenny (Botter) McLain; brother Werner “Hop” McLain; sister-in-law Nancy McLain; and brother-in-law Earl Johnson.
Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given in honor of Barton to Hope Center.
