(Louisville, KY) – A man who had been wanted by Indiana State Police since Friday in connection with the shooting an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was found late Saturday night.
ISP says 33-year-old Austin Schepers was located at a home in Louisville, and after a short confrontation with Louisville Metro Police, Schepers was shot to death.
“While details regarding the confrontation remain under investigation, the confrontation resulted in Schepers being shot and killed at the scene by law enforcement,” said Master Trooper Phil Hensley in an ISP press release.
Schepers had been wanted since early Friday morning. State police say Schepers shot Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Zac Andry on the side of a roadway near West Baden. Andry was checking on a car that he discovered stopped on the side of the road at an intersection.
Troopers say while Andry was beside the silver Pontiac Grand Prix, Schepers, who was inside the car, shot Andry multiple times.
There was a woman in the car at the time as well and she ran from the shooting scene. She was later found near Orangeville.
Andry remains in critical condition.
With Schepers’ death at the hands of LMPD officers, ISP says there is no longer a danger to the public, and the statewide Blue Alert in Indiana was canceled.
