Arlen H. Stirn, 83, Peppertown

Arlen H. Stirn, age 83, of Peppertown, IN was called home on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at The Willows in Greensburg, IN. Born on April 20, 1941, in Peppertown, IN, he is the son of Allen and Vivian (Nee: Holman) Stirn. He married Carol (Wilson) Stirn on January 6, 1963, in the little white church on the canal in Metamora, IN at The Metamora Church of Christ.

Arlen graduated from Batesville High School in 1959. There, he met the love of his life Carol. After they married, Arlen worked as a plumber/electrician before he began his true passion, farming. Along with his brother, Ronald, Arlen farmed for forty-plus years before retiring. He still enjoyed taking care of his cattle and driving around in his truck visiting neighbors. Arlen never knew a stranger, and everyone knew him from his infamous hat. A diehard I.U. fan, you could always find him cheering on the Hoosiers during basketball season. Arlen was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor and drink a cold Pepsi with anyone who would join him. Arlen loved spending time with his cousins from Indianapolis hunting quail and squirrel as well as foraging for mushrooms in his “secret” spots.  He had a strong Christian faith and was a member of The Metamora Church of Christ for more than 75 years before it closed its doors in 2023. He recently had become a member of the Batesville Christian Church. He was a proud grandfather and loved to be around his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughters: Nancy (John) Enneking of Batesville, Melissa (Ken) Merkel of Metamora; son, Brian (Randi) Stirn of Oldenburg; grandsons: Bradley and Jed Enneking; granddaughters: Paige and Ava Stirn and Emily Merkel; sister, Darlene (Bob) McCreary; sister-in-law, Kathy (Stirn) Miller, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Stirn.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 9:30am -12:00pm. Service will follow at 12:00 pm all at Meyers Funeral Home with Jeff and Rob Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow at Peppertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Franklin County 4-H.
