(Greensburg, IN) – Four lawmakers who represent all or portions of Decatur County at the Statehouse gathered at the Greensburg City Hall Multipurpose Room Friday afternoon for the 2025 Legislative Update.
State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg/Senate District 42), representatives Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville/House District 73), Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville/House District 55), and Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon/House District 67) each delivered opening statements about bills they are authoring or keeping a close eye on during the current legislative session.
A majority of the lawmakers remarks centered around Senate Bill 1, the property tax reform legislation which received major changes this week.
The floor was then opened for a question and answer session.
The legislators and some of the people who came to the podium during the Q and A acknowledged the fine line between lowering skyrocketing property taxes versus not drastically cutting funding for local governments – including public safety and other services – and school corporations.
The event was presented by the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce board member and local attorney Lora Williams served as the moderator.
