Area counties all see lower unemployment rates in October

SOUTHEASTERN IN — All four area counties saw a drop in unemployment rates last month.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Decatur County’s jobless rate for October was the lowest in the area at 1.9 percent, which was down from 2.2 percent in September.

Franklin County checked in at 2.0 percent, which was down from 2.2 the month before.

Ripley and Dearborn counties tied last month at 2.1 percent. Ripley County stood at 2.3 in September while Dearborn County was at 2.4 percent.

By comparison in October 2020, seven months after the COVID-19 pandemic began, Franklin County’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent; Decatur County stood at 3.9 percent; Ripley County checked in at 4.1 percent last October, and Dearborn County had the highest rate that month at 4.5 percent.
