(Greensburg, IN) – A standing room only crowd attended Tuesday night’s Greensburg City Council meeting – most of whom are against a proposed data center going in the Business Enterprise Park, which is located along I-74 opposite Honda’s Indiana Auto Plant.
Although the item wasn’t on council’s agenda, those against the proposal attended to show their opposition to city leaders.
Council President Jamie Cain acknowledged the letters and emails they’ve received on the 2024 annexation of the property in question.
Cain said the annexation was super voluntary, with every property owner petitioning the city.
He said the property had been marketed for 15 or more years before the current owners purchased it.
Cain also addressed concerns about water and electric use.
He said the potential user would be fifth among water consumers behind Honda, Delta Faucet, Decatur County Rural Water, and K-B Foods, and ahead of Greensburg Community Schools.
Cain added the city won’t oversee electric use, and that the site would be served by Hoosier Energy and not Duke Energy, which services a vast majority of the City of Greensburg.
He concluded by saying there are no pending decisions before the city or any of its boards and commissions, and there’s currently no timeline or movement on the project.
