Anita (Sturgill) McKinley, 91, of Moores Hill passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Manderley Health Care Center with her loving husband by her side. Anita was born on Sunday, August 26, 1934, in Letcher County, Kentucky; daughter of John Riley Sturgill and Louie (Fouts) Sturgill. Anita married the love of her life, Charles McKinley, on October 3, 1953, and he survives her. Anita was a member of the Pipe Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She has been a very dedicated and involved member of many churches in her lifetime. She was a former Girl Scouts leader and was very passionate about volunteer work in the community. She loved gardening, flowers, crocheting, cooking, and dearly loved her animals and feeding the birds.
Anita will be missed by her husband Charles McKinley of Moores Hill; son William John (Huicha) McKinley of Milan; daughters Angela (Steve) McKeown of Moores Hill, Sharon (John) Hart of Canaan, and Pamela (Tim) Kittle of Moores Hill; sisters Verda Smith of Florida, Barbara (Arlo) Smith of Florida, Gail Strickland of North Carolina, and Joy (Roger) Zeigler of Florida; sisters-in-law Shirley Sturgill of Cumberland, KY and Lea Ann Sturgill of Canaan; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents John Riley Sturgill and Louie Sturgill; son Paul Marvin McKinley; grandson Steven Allen McKeown II; sister Loretta (Red) Fields; brothers Oscar (Ollie Mae) Sturgill, Alvin (Carolyn) Sturgill, Clarence Sturgill, Willard Sturgill, Clyde Sturgill, and Charlie Sturgill; and brother-in-law James Smith.
Services will be held at a future date. Memorials may be given in honor of Anita to Ripley County Humane Society or National Audubon Society.
