Anita Kay (Swinford) Massey, 82, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Anita was born in Rising Sun, IN on July 5, 1942, a daughter of the late Londalea (Detmer) Swinford and Edwin E. Swinford. She was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1959 and continued her education at Thomas Moore University in Crestview Hills, KY. Anita married Felix M. Massey III on September 13, 1968. Anita and Felix were married over 52 years until his passing on June 28, 2021. Anita was a member of the Rising Sun Methodist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. She took pleasure in helping young people along their path to knowledge and taught at IvyTech Community College for some time. Anita also did clerical work for various medical offices over the years, including the office of Dr. Fessler in Rising Sun and the Community Mental Center in Lawrenceburg. Anita enjoyed gardening and doing yard work alongside Felix. She also did some sewing and thoroughly enjoyed going to quilt shows. She was known for her caring nature and will be deeply missed.
Anita is survived by two brothers, Edwin Swinford, Jr., of CO and Frank Swinford, of Ft. Wayne, IN. She is also survived by her nephew, Adam and by her nieces, Adrienne and Beth and by great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin & Londalea Swinford, by her sister-in-law, Sandy Swinford, by her niece, Chrissa Swinford and her great niece, Reagan Swinford.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Tom Work officiating. Visitation will be held 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 28th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
