Andrew “Mr. O’Grady” John O’Grady, 71, of Batesville, passed away at The Waters of Batesville on Sunday August 17,2025.
He was born on September 9, 1953, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Robert Francis and Florence Dorothy (Healy) O’Grady.
After graduating from high school, Andrew continued his education at Indiana University, earning a degree in education in 1976. He began his career with GE in Virginia, transferred to GE in Cincinnati, and finished with GE/Sylvania in Seymour. On May 25, 1991 he would marry Jane Nordmeyer and they moved to Osgood.
It was there that he pursued his true passion—teaching. He began a full-time teaching career at Jac-Cen-Del High School and later earned his master’s degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Mr. O’Grady became certified to teach at least six different science subjects. During his time at Jac-Cen-Del, he also coached track and soccer, led the academic team, and played a vital role in securing numerous grants for the school corporation.
He was especially proud to see his former students succeed and go on to lead meaningful, productive lives. Outside of teaching, Andrew enjoyed maintaining a well-kept yard and reading—having read thousands of books throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Jane (Nordmeyer); sons Jonathon (Melissa) Hoium of Villa Hills, Kentucky, and Nick Hoium of Nashville, Kentucky; brother Paul O’Grady; grandson Grady; nieces Katie O’Grady and Sarah Hageman; and sister-in-law Sr. Maury Nordmeyer.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation in Andy’s memory on Thursday August 21, 2025 from 10 am. -12 pm. at St John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Osgood. Funeral Mass will then be held at noon also at the church, with Father Binu Matthew officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jac-Cen-Del School Scholarship Fund.
