Alvin C. Smith, 75, of Ohio County, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 25th, 2024 at his home. Alvin was born in Oneida, TN on May 27, 1949, a son of the late Nancy Lee (Pike) Smith and Marvin D. Smith. He was a graduate of Milan High School, Class of 1968. Alvin also studied auto mechanics at the Southeastern Indiana Vocational School in Versailles, IN. Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Lawrenceburg American Legion Post 239 for over 45 years. Alvin worked at the AEP power plant in Lawrenceburg, IN for over 30 years. He later worked as a Security Officer for Rising Star and Hollywood casinos and lastly at Turfway Park Racing & Gaming. His job at the casinos gave him an opportunity to meet and talk to many people, something he loved to do. Alvin loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and especially fishing. He also liked getting together with friends and playing cards. Spending time with his family is what he loved most.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Gina Smith, of Rising Sun, IN; by three daughters, Carla Jones (Wendell), of Rising Sun, IN; Christy Cyrus (Danny), of Rising Sun, IN and Brandie Black (Jarrod), of Noblesville, IN; by his grandchildren, Terrance Jones, Tyler Jones (Tiffani), Felicia Schultz (Devon), Ian Cyrus (Darian), Brenton Cyrus (Diana), Quinton Black and Sadie Black; by great grandchildren, James, Jesse, Aaliyah, Kameron, Noah, Rose Lynn, Scarlett, Abi, Brenlee, Emma and Cookie. Alvin is also survived by sisters, Diane, Melinda, Reva and Vikki; by brothers, Arron and Lindsey and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends and his cherished dog Lady. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Nancy Lee Smith; by brothers, Barney and Marvin Smith and by sisters, Gwen Hamilton and Emma Ruth Smith.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, December 30th, 2024 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, December 30th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun-Ohio County EMS, Lawrenceburg American Legion Post 239 or Rising Sun American Legion Post 59.
