(Greensburg, IN) – All Kids Bike, the national 501(c)(3) nonprofit teaching kindergarten students how to ride bikes in PE class, is activating their All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program at North Decatur Elementary School, thanks to a generous donation from Honda.
“Teaching kids to ride a bike not only benefits their physical and mental well-being but also lays the foundation for a lifelong skill and improved classroom performance,” said Lisa Weyer, executive director of the Strider Education Foundation. “Together with Honda, we are committed to creating lasting, positive changes in communities by empowering children through the joy of biking.”
The comprehensive program, which is funded by a financial contribution from Honda, includes teacher training and certification, complete curriculum with lesson plans, games and activities, a fleet of 24 Strider balance-to-pedal bikes, pedal conversion kits, fully adjustable student helmets, an instructor bike with pedal conversion kit and helmet, two rolling storage racks, and access to a resource portal with live support for the life of the program.
“Honda is committed to ensuring safety for everyone,” said Bobbie Trittschuh, charitable giving manager, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., “and we are grateful for this partnership with All Kids Bike as it provides us with opportunities to support educational programs that take a human-centered approach to safety in the communities where our associates live and work.”
At North Decatur Elementary School, this program will positively impact approximately 65 kindergarten students each year by teaching them how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class. With a lifespan of 7-10 years for the equipment, it is estimated that up to 650 students will benefit from this initiative over the next decade.
“We want to thank Honda and the All Kids Bike Program for this amazing partnership! Through this program, we are able to provide students with opportunities that they may not have had otherwise,” stated assistant principal of North Decatur Elementary, Jeremy Sherman. “This program will help them build confidence and perseverance, skills that will serve them well both in and out of school.”
North Decatur Elementary School celebrated the introduction of the program with a kickoff event alongside Honda associates, who helped build the bikes for the program beforehand.
