Penntown, IN —Tuesday evening, the Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Rosfeld Road just east of Saint Mary’s Road. When officers arrived, they found the driver, Dustin E. Race, 38, of Osgood, and a passenger, Felisha Y. Ward, 24, of Patriot, trapped inside a Tiburon with serious injuries. Both were flown by UC Air Care to University of Cincinnati Hospital, where Ward was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the accident.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was headed westbound on Rosfeld Road when it went off the north side of the road before striking a bridge abutment. A witness stated she could hear a vehicle traveling sat a high rate of speed past her home. A second witness stated he drove his vehicle off the road into an embankment to avoid a head-on collision.
Officers believe alcohol and speed contributed to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
