(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County Emergency Management Agency (DCEMA) says EMA Director Michael Snyder has successfully completed the requirements to earn the Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) Certification.

DCEMA says this certification is recognized statewide and demonstrates Snyder’s commitment to excellence in emergency management and public safety.

The PEM designation requires extensive training, practical experience, and a demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

The Professional Emergency Manager Certification is awarded by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and signifies advanced competency in emergency planning, disaster
response, and community risk reduction.

The certification requires the completion of 19 virtual classes, 112 hours of classroom instruction, training and exercise experience, and six professional contributions to the Emergency Management field of work.

“Achieving this certification reflects dedication to ensuring the highest standards of emergency management for our community. Preparedness and resilience are at the heart of what Emergency Managers do, and this certification reinforces Director Snyder’s efforts to protect lives and property,” reads a statement from DCEMA.

“Director Snyder’s achievement of the Professional Emergency Manager certification is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the citizens of Decatur County,” said EMA Board President and Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh. “By completing this rigorous curriculum and meeting the highest standards set by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Michael has not only advanced his own professional expertise but has significantly strengthened our county’s resilience. This milestone ensures that our agency remains at the forefront of public safety and emergency preparedness.”
