(Washington Township/Decatur County, IN) – The Washington Township Trustee’s Office in Decatur County is responding to residents’ reduction or delay in receiving SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
Starting Monday, November 10, the office will start scheduling individual appointments for households currently receiving SNAP benefits, and will provide additional food assistance. Trustee Beverly Rivera says you need to call 663-5501 to schedule an appointment.
You must bring your EBT card and the latest letter showing proof of benefits.
Rivera says those items must be provided to verify enrollment in the program, and the amount to be received.
She says, to help the process go smoothly, township residents are urged to call the office within two days of normally receiving their benefit so that they have enough food and volunteers on hand each distribution day.
If the delay or suspension of SNAP benefits continues, they will see recipients a second week.
Rivera says they will provide this program as long as the suspension, delay, or SNAP benefit reduction continues.
She also urged residents to visit food pantries throughout the county, and in particular highlights the ongoing service of the Greensburg Community Bread of Life providing hot meals every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Trustee Rivera issued a statement about the situation, which can be read here.
