(Ripley County, IN) – The Ripley County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded $3,000 in grants from the Holton Warhorses Legacy Fund to support the Town of Holton and its surrounding community.

The Holton Warhorses Legacy Fund

The Holton Warhorses Legacy Fund was established in the aftermath of the devastating 2012 tornado that struck the town. Originally created to aid in recovery efforts and fund a storm shelter, the fund has since grown into a permanent endowment.

Named in memory of the former Holton High School mascot, this fund now provides a consistent, long-term source of support for local projects and nonprofits. This grant program ensures that the Holton community will have the resources to support future needs, which directly aligns with the Ripley County Community Foundation’s vision of “a thriving county where generosity fuels opportunity and enriches the quality of life for generations to come.”

Grant Recipients and Projects

These grants will support a variety of local projects that address the community’s needs.

The following nonprofits received grants from the Holton Warhorses Legacy Fund:

  • Town of Holton Police Department received $263 to purchase first aid equipment for the police cruiser.
  • Ripley County Historical Society received $500 to ensure that the Wreaths Across Ripley County program can honor the veterans laid to rest in the Holton and Holton West
    cemeteries.
  • New Marion Volunteer Fire Department received $500 to purchase a computer, which is essential to provide firefighter training.
  • Carson Hughes Memorial Foundation received $500 to purchase a camera to loan to the recipients of its programming.
  • Holton Christian Church received $1,237 to offset the cost of repairs to outside doors and the bathroom.

“The character of our small communities are what make Ripley County so special,” stated Amy Streator, Executive Director, Ripley County Community Foundation. “These grants are a powerful example of how a permanent fund, built by and for the community, can support local organizations and improve the quality of life for all residents.”

How you can make a difference

This initiative is a powerful example of how the Ripley County Community Foundation is Connecting People Who Care with Causes that Matter.

The community foundation will host its Annual Day of Giving on Friday, November 7 . All gifts made to endowed funds on November 7 will be eligible to receive a match of $0.50 for every $1
donated, not to exceed $5,000 per fund. The Day of Giving is the perfect time to donate to the local cause closest to your heart and enrich the quality of life of our neighbors.
